Hanging In, a Love StoryPrologueSmall, trim, intelligent and attractive, Sarah belied her 58 years of age. Dressed in a pale mauve Chanel suit, she sat in an upright designer chair in the living room, her fingers caressing a black pearl necklace with the elegant diamond clasp. The necklace had arrived by messenger many years ago, a week after her daughter, Eden, was born. The chauffeur would be coming to the door to get her luggage in five minutes. Sarah was a stickler for punctuality. The Continental Airline flight would leave at 3:35 pm, to take her and Ed Markston to California. She disliked the long monotonous flight from Chicago to California and was anxious to get there on time. Waiting impatiently, Sarah reminisced about her life, with all the mountains and valleys. It has been a heck of a ride. Smiling, she thought, I-am-a-survivor.
